DIY Brown Sugar Molds Using Food-Grade Liquid Mold Silicone To order liquid mold silicone rubber, contact Ms. Chen at 13662816580 (same number for WeChat)
- Core Materials: Food-grade liquid mold silicone (usually two-component, Component A silicone base + Component B curing agent), brown sugar mold prototype (can be 3D printed resin parts, hand-carved plaster/wax molds, etc., with a smooth surface required).
- Auxiliary Tools: Mixing cup, scraper, electronic scale (accuracy 0.1g), release agent (food-grade, such as Vaseline, used when the prototype surface is complex), sealed container (for silicone mixing), tape (to secure the prototype).
- Clean the brown sugar mold prototype (e.g., resin parts) by wiping with alcohol to remove dust and oil, then air dry.
- If the prototype surface has fine textures or requires easy demolding, apply a thin layer of food-grade release agent and let it sit for 5-10 minutes to allow adhesion.
- Secure the prototype on a flat work surface (e.g., wooden board) and use tape to create a "mold frame" (height 1-2cm above the prototype to prevent silicone overflow).
2. Silicone Mixing: Strictly Control Ratios, Avoid Bubbles
- According to the food-grade silicone instructions, precisely weigh Component A (silicone) and Component B (curing agent) using an electronic scale, with common ratios of 11:1 or 100:2.
- Pour Components A and B into a dry mixing cup and stir slowly in one direction for 5-8 minutes with a scraper, ensuring no visible streaks (stirring too quickly may cause bubbles).
- If bubbles appear after stirring, let the silicone sit for 5-10 minutes (natural defoaming) or place it in a vacuum machine for 1-2 minutes (professional method, preferred for more thorough defoaming).
3. Silicone Pouring: Pour Slowly to Avoid Residual Bubbles
- Hold the mixing cup with both hands and slowly pour the mixed silicone along the edge of the mold frame, allowing it to flow naturally and cover the prototype. Avoid direct impact to prevent bubbles or displacement.
- Pour until the silicone completely submerges the prototype (surface should be 0.5-1cm above the prototype to ensure uniform mold thickness). If small bubbles appear during pouring, gently pop them with a toothpick.
4. Curing: Control Time Based on Temperature
- Place the poured silicone mold in a wind-free, dust-free environment and cure according to instructions:
- Room temperature curing (around 25°C): Typically takes 4-8 hours, with thicker molds requiring up to 12 hours;
- Heated curing (e.g., 50°C oven): Can be shortened to 1-2 hours (ensure the silicone’s temperature tolerance to avoid deformation).
- Do not touch or move the mold during curing to prevent silicone sagging or prototype displacement.
